What is Live Work New Mexico?
Live Work NM is a statewide network of local program efforts, with a goal of creating 20,000 new economic base jobs by 2022. Each participating region, community or neighborhood will develop, brand, fund and operate their own home-based work community. Each program would elect to pursue economic base job creation through one or more of the following strategies:
- Supporting & Expanding the community’s rapidly growing solo worker economic base with specialized amenities, services and incentives to increase productivity (earnings) and improve the competitive eco system for the community’s Solo Economic Base Workers.
- Recruiting high income, Solo Economic Base Workers from out of state and selling them houses.
- Converting a portion of an existing pool of local unemployed and under employed residents to productive Solo Economic Base career paths.
Who are Solitary Economic Base Workers?
Solo Work is performed from a home office, workshop, studio or mobile platform instead of the traditional corporate employer workplace. Solo Workers are often sole proprietors with their own LLC or S Corp. Some are 1099 contract employees, and others are formal employees of corporations who are allowed to work from home or a mobile platform. The types of work performed by Solo Workers includes; consultants, writers, artists, digital animators, financial advisors, accounting, design services, medical transcription, IT services, etc.
Economic Base Work is a job in which the products or services produced are sold outside the local economy or are funded by tax revenue from taxpayers outside the local market. This economic base distinction is important because it is economic base activity that brings the new money into the economy needed to make it bigger. Jobs producing goods or services for local consumption merely slice the economic pie into smaller pieces.
